SO, THE NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH IS APRIL 2026.

SO WHEREAS THE MONTH OF APRIL IS NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE

PREVENTION MONTH, A TIME FOR THE COMMUNITY TO COME TOGETHER, AND TAKE STEPS TO MAKE A BIG IMPACT ON THE SAFETY AND WELL-BEING OF OUR CHILDREN AND OUR COMMUNITY.

OFFERING SUPPORT TO FAMILIES IN CRISIS IS ESSENTIAL TO PREVENT THE ABUSE AND MALTREATMENT OF ALL CHILDREN.

WHEREAS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION IS POSSIBLE THROUGH THE AWARENESS AND ACTIONS OF MANY, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL TO HELP PREVENT CHILD ABUSE BY BUILDING LOCALIZED SUPPORT NETWORKS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO THE WELL-BEING OF OUR FAMILIES AND THE CHILDREN ENTRUSTED TO THEM.

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION OCCURS EVERY DAY THROUGH DILIGENT WORK AND TIRELESS ADVOCACY UNDERTAKEN BY FAMILIES, FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, HOUSES OF FAITH, ADVOCACY GROUPS, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, SCHOOLS, AND HEALTH CARE WORKERS.

WHEREAS EACH YEAR, THE MONTH OF APRIL IS DEDICATED TO RECOGNIZING THE CRITICAL WORK BEING DONE TO SUPPORT FAMILIES AND MITIGATE THE CHALLENGES THEY FACE.

THROUGH INITIATIVES LIKE TEXAS GO BLUE DAY AND PINWHEELS FOR PREVENTION, WE STAND TOGETHER TO BUILD A STRONG, SAFE, HEALTHY FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY, SETTING UP FUTURE GENERATIONS TO SUCCEED.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN MUNNS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF PLANO, TEXAS, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM APRIL 2026 IS NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH IN PLANO.

WHILE THE PLAN DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT COVERS A LARGE AREA, ALMOST 114 ACRES, THE FOCUS IS REALLY ON A SMALLER AREA, 6.3 ACRES IN THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE LARGER PLAN DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT, SO THAT IS SHOWN AS THE REDEVELOPMENT SITE ON THE SCREEN.

SO YOU SEE THE LARGER PD 189, RETAIL OFFICE 2, AND THEN THE FOCUS AREA.

THE AMENDMENTS TO THE PLAN DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT AS PROPOSED FOCUS ENTIRELY ON THAT AREA AND DO NOT ACTUALLY AMEND ANY OF THE OTHER PROPERTY WITHIN THE PLAN DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT.

YOU CAN SEE THE SURROUNDING ZONING IS PRIMARILY RETAIL TO THE NORTH AND WEST AND RESIDENTIAL USES MULTIFAMILY, SINGLE-FAMILY

SO THE REQUEST IS AGAIN TO AMEND A PLANNED DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT THAT WOULD ALLOW INDEPENDENT LIVING FACILITY WITH MODIFIED DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS.

AGAIN, I'VE STATED IT IS PROPOSED TO LIMIT THE CHANGES TO A 6.3 ACRE PROPERTY AT THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF PARK AND OHIO.

AND IT WAS INITIATED PRIOR TO SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2025.

SO IT WOULD BE SUBJECT TO THE REGULATIONS IN EFFECT AT THAT TIME.

I'LL BE DISCUSSING THE REGULATIONS REALLY IN EFFECT IN JUNE WHEN THE PRE-APPLICATION MEETING TOOK PLACE.

SO THE AERIAL PHOTOGRAPH HERE IT ZOOMS IN SO YOU CAN SEE WHAT THE SITE LOOKS LIKE TODAY.

THIS IS THE EXISTING BUILDING ON THE SITE AT 4600 WEST PARK BOULEVARD AND THE PROPOSED CONCEPT PLAN THAT SHOWS SORT OF A CHANGE IN SCALE AND SCOPE AND WHAT MIGHT BE EXPECTED.

WERE THIS ZONING CASE TO BE APPROVED, THE NEW BUILDING WOULD BE SUBSTANTIALLY LARGER, MORE LOT COVERAGE.

ON THE SITE, THE LOT BOUNDARIES ARE NOT PROPOSED TO CHANGE.

SO SOME HISTORY ON THE SITE.

THE LARGER PLANNED DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT WAS CREATED IN 1981.

IT WAS AMENDED IN THE MID-'90S.

TO ALLOW HEALTH AND FITNESS CENTER WHEN THE EXISTING HEALTH AND FITNESS CENTER BUILDING WAS BUILT ON THE SITE THAT BUSINESS CLOSED IN 2025 AND THAT SAME YEAR WE HAD A PRE-APPLICATION MEETING TO TALK ABOUT INDEPENDENT LIVING DEVELOPMENT ON THE PROPERTY SINCE THE BUSINESS HAD HAD CLOSED AS YOU ARE AWARE, SOME REGULATIONS ALLOWING INDEPENDENT LIVING AND MULTIFAMILY DEVELOPMENT CHANGED AT THE SAME TIME, SO THERE WAS SOME DELAY IN WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN AS WE WERE LOOKING AT CHANGING THE ZONING ORDINANCE.

A APPLICATION WAS SUBMITTED.

WE CONTINUED TO WORK THROUGH THAT.

A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD INITIALLY IN JANUARY.

PNZ TABLED THAT.

WE WORKED WITH THE APPLICANT OVER A TWO-MONTH PERIOD.

A SECOND PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD IN MARCH THAT RESULTED IN A RECOMMENDATION FOR APPROVAL BY A VOTE OF 5-2.

SO THIS PLAN DEVELOPMENT HAS SOME PRETTY STRICT STANDARDS WITHIN IT WITH REGARD TO HEIGHT AND WITH REGARD TO USE.

THE SUBJECT PROPERTY ON THE CORNER OF PARK BOULEVARD AND OHIO.

HAS HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS THAT LIMIT IT TO TWO STORIES, BOTH THE PINK AREA ON THE SCREEN IS THERE'S A RESTRICTION OFF PARK BOULEVARD AND A RESTRICTION OFF OHIO DRIVE THAT LIMITS ALL USES TO TWO STORIES.

SO THAT ALSO RESTRICTS UNDER 840 ALLOWANCES.

SO THE ALLOWED HEIGHT WOULD BE ONLY UP TO 45 FEET EVEN AFTER SEPTEMBER 1ST WERE A NEW APPLICATION TO COME IN.

SO UNDER THE EXISTING ZONING, AND THAT'S, AGAIN, AS OF JUNE 2025, WHEN THIS APPLICATION WAS INITIATED, AN INDEPENDENT LIVING FACILITY USE WAS NOT PERMITTED.

THE MAXIMUM HEIGHT WAS TWO-STORY.

THE MINIMUM SETBACK FROM PRESTON PARK, 50 FEET, LANDSCAPE EDGE OF 10 FEET.

SO THE PROPOSAL WOULD BE TO...

PROVIDE SOME BUFFER.

NOW IF AN APPLICATION WERE TO COME IN TODAY FOR BUY RIGHT DEVELOPMENT OF A MULTIFAMILY PRODUCT, THEY COULD BUILD AT THE 25 FOOT LINE.

SO THAT'S THE DIFFERENTIAL.

THE ORIGINAL PD AGAIN WOULDN'T HAVE ALLOWED ANYTHING BUT TWO STORY DEVELOPMENT ON THIS PROPERTY, BUT OBVIOUSLY WE'RE DEALING WITH THE ORIGINAL PD VERSUS THE ALLOWANCE UNDER STATE LAW.

ADDITIONAL PD RESTRICTIONS THAT WERE ADDED TO LIMIT VISIBILITY TOWARDS NEIGHBORING PROPERTIES INCLUDE A MAXIMUM OF SEVEN DWELLING UNITS ALONG THE FIFTH FLOOR AT THE OHIO DRIVE FACADE.

THEN THE CLERESTORY WINDOW LIMITATION FOR NON-DWELLING UNITS FOR EXTERIOR WINDOWS AGAIN ALONG THE OHIO DRIVE FACADE.

AND THEN OUTDOOR SPACES PROVIDING SOLID SCREENING.

AND THE APPLICANT MAY DISCUSS THIS.

THE LANGUAGE IN THE PD STATES SPECIFICALLY ALL OUTDOOR SPACES.

SO IT WOULD REQUIRE A SIX FOOT TALL EVERGREEN LIVING SCREEN ALONG OHIO DRIVE, INCLUDING ADDITIONAL SHADE TREES EVERY 50 FEET.

SO THAT WOULD BE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHAT EXISTS TODAY AND THE PROPOSAL.

THE APPLICANT'S ALSO PROPOSING A 2,000 SQUARE FOOT DOG PARK NEAR THE CORNER.

AND YOU CAN SEE THAT IN THE DRAWING THAT'S ALSO INCLUDED IN ONE OF THE EXHIBITS IN YOUR PACKET.

THE ADJACENT DAYCARE CENTER TO THE SOUTH HAS EXPRESSED CONCERNS WITH REGARD TO LIMITED ACCESS FROM THE REDESIGN OF THE SITE AS WELL AS THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS AND ANY IMPACT THAT MAY HAVE TO THEIR BUSINESS.

THE APPLICANT HAS CONTINUED TO WORK WITH THE ADJACENT OWNER EVEN AFTER THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION MEETING AND HAS AN UPDATE FOR THE COUNCIL IN THEIR SLIDE DECK, SO THEY WILL PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO YOU.

WITH REGARD TO THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN, THE PROPOSAL DOES MEET THE BUILDING HEIGHT STANDARD OF THE SUBURBAN ACTIVITY CENTER, AS WELL AS PARKING ORIENTATION AND BLOCK PATTERN.

ANOTHER CONSIDERATION IS WHETHER A PLAN DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT IS WARRANTED AMENDING THE PLAN DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT SINCE THE USE IS ALLOWED BY RIGHT SO THAT'S A CONSIDERATION FOR THE COUNCIL TO LOOK AT WHETHER THAT IS IS WARRANTED REGARDING FEEDBACK WE'VE HAD A LOT OF FEEDBACK ON THIS CASE FROM THE COMMUNITY THERE ARE TWO LETTERS IN SUPPORT WITHIN THE PLAN DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT ITSELF WE HAVE 11 LETTERS OF OPPOSITION WITHIN 200 FEET THAT IS TOTALS 1.7 ACRES OR 3.9% AND NINE LETTERS OR RESPONSES IN SUPPORT, ONE NEUTRAL AND 170 IN OPPOSITION FOR 180 TOTAL RESPONSES WITH 15 OTHER LETTERS.

PLUS THERE WAS AN ADDITIONAL LETTER THAT CAME IN LATE THAT I BELIEVE HAS BEEN DISTRIBUTED BY MS. HENDERSON.

FIVE STORIES FOR SENIOR CITIZENS.

HOW MANY DOORS? I COULDN'T TELL YOU BECAUSE YOU'D HAVE TO MEASURE OUT, BUT YOU COULD LIKELY BUILD THE SAME NUMBER OF DOORS THAT THEY'RE PROPOSING TODAY.

JUST WITH MORE LOT COVERAGE BECAUSE THE SETBACK COULD BE 25 FEET.

YOU COULD GARAGE PARK IT, SMALLER UNITS.

I'M CERTAIN YOU COULD BUILD MORE UNITS BECAUSE THEIR UNITS ARE SO LARGE AND HAVE SO MUCH COMMON AREA.

SO WE'RE TALKING A DIFFERENCE OF, I THINK, 10 FEET? IT WOULD BE 20 FEET SHORTER THAN THEIR PROPOSAL, BUT IT WOULD BE EFFECTIVELY, IT WOULD BE, SO IT'S 120, SO 95 FEET CLOSER TO OHIO.

AND THE SETBACK WOULD BE? MUCH MORE CLOSER TO THE EDGE OF THE ROAD.

UTILIZATION OF THE PROPERTY WHEN YOU CONSIDER THE ALTERNATIVES.

I'VE PARTICIPATED IN SOME OF THE ON-SITE DISCUSSIONS WITH THE RESIDENTS, INCLUDING DISCUSSIONS WITH THE MONTESSORI SCHOOL.

AND I THINK THAT THERE ARE...

VERY VALID CONCERNS.

AND I FEEL LIKE THE DEVELOPER HAS REALLY DONE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE IN ORDER TO STILL MAKE SURE THIS PROJECT IS PROFITABLE AND THAT IT MAKES SENSE FOR THEM TO DO IT, BUT ALSO THAT IT MAKES SENSE FOR OUR CITY, FOR OUR RESIDENTS, FOR THE OTHER BUSINESSES IN THE AREA, FOR THE TRAFFIC IMPACT.

LET'S FACE IT, TRAFFIC IS...

IT'S BECOMING A BIG DEAL IN PLANO AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE, AND I'M OPTIMISTIC THAT A PLACE THAT WILL HAVE LESS THAN ONE CAR PER APARTMENT ON AVERAGE WILL HAVE A MINIMAL IMPACT AROUND THAT.

I'M ALSO THINKING ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT WE HAVE TO WEIGH HERE.

THE STATE HAS TOLD US THAT WE IN THE STATE NEED MORE HOUSING.

WE KNOW THAT FROM OUR STUDY AND FROM OTHER DISCUSSIONS THAT WE NEED DIVERSITY IN OUR HOUSING, NOT JUST MORE OF THE SAME.

WE DO HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF OUR NEIGHBORS AS MUCH AS WE CAN, AND I THINK THAT THERE HAVE BEEN ONGOING DISCUSSIONS.

EVEN AFTER P&Z, AFTER IT'S BEEN APPROVED, THE DEVELOPER HAS GONE OUT AND CONTINUED TO HAVE MEETINGS AND HAVE DISCUSSIONS.

AND MAKE SURE THE CONCERNS ARE UNDERSTOOD AND ADDRESSED AS BEST WE CAN.

I WAS PARTICULARLY CONCERNED THAT THE MONTESSORI WOULD BE IN TROUBLE DURING THE DEMOLITION AND CONSTRUCTION PHASES.

AND I'M PLEASED TO KNOW THAT YOU'VE COME UP WITH AN AGREEMENT WITH THEM THAT YOU'RE FINDING WAYS TO TAKE CARE OF THESE THINGS WHILE YOU HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF ALL THOSE THINGS.

THE OTHER THING WITH SB 840 IS IT CONTINUES TO TAKE AWAY CONTROL FROM THE CITY, FROM OUR RESIDENTS AND OUR VOTERS HERE.

I REALLY WANT TO, IF POSSIBLE, GO FORWARD WITH ANY PROJECT THAT DOES ALLOW US TO MAINTAIN CONTROL.

I THINK THAT THIS DEVELOPER, OBVIOUSLY THEY DO APARTMENTS.

THEY VERY WELL COULD HAVE JUST SAID, WE'RE DONE WITH THIS.

WE'RE JUST GOING TO PUT UP APARTMENTS AND WE'RE DONE.

I'M PLEASED THAT THEY'VE CONTINUED TO WORK WITH THE CITY, THE NEIGHBORHOOD, AND THE BUSINESSES IN THE AREA TO TRY TO MAKE THIS REALLY A VIABLE PROJECT FOR EVERYBODY.

IT COULD BE A PLACE WHERE I LIVE IN THE FUTURE, WHERE I'D BE ABLE TO VISIT THE KDI'S HOUSE, STEVE FIELDS, PIE TAP, NOT THAT I KNOW ANY OF THE RESTAURANTS OVER THERE.

BUT AGAIN, THE TRAFFIC'S GOING TO BE LESS THERE THAN IF SB 840 WAS TO TAKE PLACE AND THEY WOULD PUT JUST STRAIGHT-UP MULTIFAMILY.

I AM HERE TO BE THE VOICE FOR MY DAUGHTER, SANAYA, WHILE IN HER PLANO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL CLASSROOM, SHE WAS SUBJECTED TO PHYSICAL ABUSE.

TEXAS ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES INVESTIGATED AND OFFICIALLY SUBSTANTIATED THE FINDINGS OF PHYSICAL ABUSE.

BUT I'M HERE TONIGHT TO ADDRESS THE PLANO POLICE DEPARTMENT'S ROLE IN WHAT HAPPENED NEXT.

WHEN A DISABLED INDIVIDUAL IS ABUSED ON CAMERA, YOU EXPECT SWIFT ACTION.

INSTEAD, THE PLANO POLICE DEPARTMENT SAT ON MY DAUGHTER'S CASE FOR 303 DAYS AND TOLD US IF IT HAPPENED AT KROGER'S, THEY WOULD HAVE MADE AN ARREST IMMEDIATELY.

THAT 10-MONTH DELAY WAS NOT AN ADMINISTRATIVE OVERSIGHT.

IT WAS A CALCULATED CYA MANEUVER, COVER YOUR ASS MANEUVER.

THE POLICE DEPARTMENT CHOSE TO PROTECT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THEMSELVES INSTEAD OF PROTECTING SANIYA.

THE SYSTEM CLOSED RANKS.

BY THE TIME THE POLICE FINALLY REFERRED THE CASE TO THE COLLIN COUNTY DA, THEY HAD MANAGED THE NARRATIVE AND THE TIMELINE TO ENSURE THE GRAND JURY WOULD RETURN A NO BILL BY NOT SHOWING THEM THE VIDEO AND TELLING THEM THAT THE POLICE SAID IT WAS MISHANDLING, NOT CRIMINAL.

THEIR 303 DAYS OF INACTION WAS DIRECT INTERFERENCE IN THE OUTCOME OF THAT PRESENTATION.

I HAVE A VERY SIMPLE QUESTION FOR THE COUNCIL AND THE POLICE CHIEF.

IF THE POLICE TRULY BELIEVE NO CRIME WAS COMMITTED, WHY DID THEY WASTE TAXPAYER DOLLARS SENDING IT TO THE DA ALMOST A YEAR LATER? THE ANSWER IS THAT SENDING IT TO THE DA WAS JUST THEATER.

IT WAS A WAY FOR THE DEPARTMENT TO WASH THEIR HANDS AND SAY THEY DID THEIR JOB, BUT THEY DIDN'T.

THEY SHIELDED THE SCHOOL, PROTECTED THEMSELVES, AND ABANDONED MY DAUGHTER, A NONVERBAL VICTIM.

MY CONCERN IS ABOUT THE LEGALITY, THE TRANSPARENCY, AND THE INTEGRITY OF OUR ZONING AND BLATANT FRAUD THAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT BEFORE US.

WE ARE SEEING A SYSTEM DESIGNED FOR SPECIAL OCCUPATIONS BEING EXPLOITED.

THE H-1B PROGRAM IS INTENDED FOR HIGHLY SKILLED STEM, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATH CANDIDATES TO HELP CONTRIBUTE TO OUR ECONOMY.

WE DO NOT NEED H-1B CANDIDATES BEING FUNNELED INTO ROLES AS CASHIERS FOR WALMART OR 7-ELEVEN.

WHEN A BUSINESS CLAIMS TO BE A HIGH-TECH FIRM ON A ZONING APPLICATION BUT OPERATES AS A FRONT FOR LOW-WAGE LABOR, THIS IS A DIRECT VIOLATION OF PLANO ZONING STANDARDS.

THIS COMMUNITY HAS SHAPED ME INTO WHO I AM TODAY AND THAT'S WHY I'M HERE.

I WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT TO SPEAK ON SOMETHING THAT'S RECENTLY AFFECTED MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY.

THERE WAS AN INCIDENT INVOLVING A MUSLIM FATHER AND HIS NINE-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER WHO WERE HARASSED BY JAKE LANG.

JAKE LANG IS A NON-PLANO RESIDENT WHO COMES TO OUR COMMUNITY SIMPLY TO HARASS OUR NEIGHBORS.

WHAT MAKES THIS ESPECIALLY CONCERNING IS THAT IT OCCURRED AT A LOCAL PLANO MOSQUE ON EID, ONE OF THE MOST SACRED AND MEANINGFUL DAYS FOR MUSLIMS. A DAY MEANT FOR PEACE, FAMILY, AND CELEBRATION.

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BAD ENOUGH IF THE SITUATION HAD ENDED THERE, BUT IT DID NOT.

THE VIDEO OF THIS INTERACTION WAS LATER EDITED AND SHARED ONLINE IN A WAY THAT CARRIED A DEEPLY DISTURBING AND FALSE NARRATIVE.

A CLAIM WAS FALSELY SPREAD.

IDENTIFYING THE NINE-YEAR-OLD GIRL AS THE MAN'S WIFE.

A MESSAGE THAT IS NOT ONLY OFFENSIVE, BUT HARMFUL.

THAT VERSION OF THE VIDEO GAINED 2.5 MILLION VIEWS.

AMPLIFYING MISINFORMATION AND SUBJECTING THIS FAMILY TO WIDESPREAD SCRUTINY AND HARASSMENT.

THE IMPACT OF THIS GOES FAR BEYOND A SINGLE MOMENT.

IT HAS CAUSED REAL HARM.

IN FACT, THE SITUATION ESCALATED TO THE POINT WHERE THE FATHER FELT HE COULD NO LONGER SAFELY SEND HIS DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL OUT OF FEAR FOR HER WELL-BEING.

NO PARENT SHOULD EVER HAVE TO MAKE THAT DECISION.

AND UNFORTUNATELY, THIS SITUATION IS NOT ISOLATED.

THERE HAVE BEEN MANY INSTANCES.

MORE RECENTLY AN INSTANCE WHERE MUSLIM STUDENTS FROM PLANO EAST SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, THE SCHOOL THAT I PREVIOUSLY HAD ATTENDED, WERE HARASSED BY AN ADULT AT A CLUB EVENT OUTSIDE OF CAMPUS.

WHEN SITUATIONS LIKE THIS INVOLVES MINORS AND ADULTS, IT RAISES SERIOUS CONCERNS ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT WE ARE PROVIDING FOR OUR STUDENTS, EVEN BEYOND SCHOOL GROUNDS.

APRIL IS RECOGNIZED AS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH.

DURING A TIME WHEN WE EMPHASIZE PROTECTING CHILDREN, IT IS IMPORTANT TO RECOGNIZE THAT SITUATIONS LIKE THIS CREATE A CONSTANT SENSE OF FEAR AND VULNERABILITIES FOR FAMILIES.

A CHILD AND HER FATHER WERE DIRECTLY HARASSED AND THAT REALITY SHOULD CONCERN ALL OF US.

IF SOMETHING LIKE THIS WERE TO HAPPEN TO THE CHILDREN OR DAUGHTERS OF ANYONE IN THIS ROOM, THERE'S NO DOUBT WE WOULD BE ENRAGED.

THAT SAME LEVEL OF CONCERN AND URGENCY SHOULD EXIST HERE AS WELL.

NO ONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO HARASS A LITTLE GIRL IN PLANO TO THE POINT THAT SHE ISN'T ABLE TO GO TO SCHOOL OUT OF FEAR FOR HER SAFETY.

THAT'S A BASIC STANDARD WE SHOULD ALL AGREE UPON.

THIS COMMUNITY HAS ALSO TAKEN STEPS TO RECOGNIZE ISSUES LIKE CHILD ABUSE THROUGH OFFICIAL PROCLAMATIONS.

IF WE ARE TRULY SERIOUS ABOUT PROTECTING CHILDREN, THEN SITUATIONS LIKE THIS SHOULD BE AN ISSUE THAT HITS CLOSE TO HOME.

WHEN MINORS ARE BEING TARGETED, HARASSED, AND MADE TO FEEL UNSAFE, IT DESERVES THAT SAME LEVEL OF URGENCY AND ATTENTION.

THAT EXPERIENCE LED ME TO TWO REALIZATIONS.

FIRST, MANY RESIDENTS DON'T PAY ANY ATTENTION TO WHAT HAPPENS IN THEIR LOCAL GOVERNMENT.

SECOND, THE DECISIONS MADE HERE HAVE REAL AND LASTING IMPACTS ON THE COMMUNITY.

IT WAS AT THAT POINT THAT I DECIDED TO BECOME MORE INVOLVED AND ULTIMATELY MADE THE DECISION TO RUN FOR COUNCIL.

AND I RAN, AND I RAN, AND I RAN. I RAN FOR PLACE SIX, AND THEN FOR PLACE ONE, AND THEN FOR PLACE SEVEN. EACH CAMPAIGN WAS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE.

AFTER THREE CONSECUTIVE RACES OF COMING IN LAST PLACE AND MAKING THE PERSONAL DECISION NOT TO EVER ACCEPT A CAMPAIGN DONATION, I CAME TO UNDERSTAND BOTH THE CHALLENGES AND REALITIES OF RUNNING FOR OFFICE.
