YEAR.WE'RE COMING UP ON THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY
[Fry Your Thanksgiving Turkey Safely with Tips from Fire-Rescue!]
AND THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY, AND THERE'S ALL THE WINTER TIME AND ALL THE HOLIDAYS WHERE PEOPLE LIKE TO COOK FOOD AND COME TOGETHER AS FAMILY.UM, UNFORTUNATELY STATISTICS SHOW THAT THANKSGIVING DAY IS THE HIGHEST COOKING FIRE DAY WITH OVER A THOUSAND FIRES RELATED TO JUST FRYING INCIDENTS.
SO WE WANT TO, UH, TALK ABOUT SOME SAFETY STEPS, TALK ABOUT SOME PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE, AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO DO A VIDEO DEMONSTRATION ON WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW THOSE PRECAUTIONS.
FIRST AND FOREMOST, YOU WANT TO BE A SAFE DISTANCE AWAY FROM ANY BUILDINGS OR ANYTHING THAT COULD CATCH FIRE.
SO YOU WANT TO BE ABOUT 10 TO 15 FEET AWAY FROM SOMETHING NOT IN YOUR GARAGE.
YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE TURKEY THAT YOU'RE FRYING IS COMPLETELY THAWED.
CHECK TO THAT YOUR TURKEY FITS IN YOUR FRYING POT AND THAT YOU HAVE THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF OIL.
MAKE SURE YOUR BURNER'S OFF WHEN YOU'RE POURING YOUR OIL IN YOUR POT.
THEN YOU CAN START HEATING UP YOUR OIL.
ONCE YOU BRING IT UP THE TEMPERATURE, THEN YOU WANT TO TURN YOUR BURNER OFF BEFORE YOU PUT THE TURKEY IN THE POT.
MAKE SURE WHEN YOU'RE LOWERING THE TURKEY INTO YOUR POT THAT YOU'RE DOING IT VERY SLOWLY AND STEADILY.
DON'T DROP IT IN THERE AND CAUSE A SPLASH THAT'S NOT GOOD FOR ANYBODY.
SO WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO TODAY IS PRETTY MUCH NOT FOLLOW ANY OF THOSE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS THAT WE JUST LISTED.
WE ARE NOT GOING TO TURN THE BURNER OFF BEFORE WE LOWER A FROZEN, NOT THAWED TURKEY INTO THE OIL.
IT'S GONNA CAUSE THAT OIL TO OVERFLOW.
AND YOU'RE GOING TO SEE WHAT CATASTROPHIC, UH, INCIDENT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW THE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR FRYING A TURKEY AT HOME.
IT REALLY IS A SERIOUS MATTER THAT SAFETY IS A BIG DEAL AND THAT WE DON'T WANT ANYBODY TO CAUSE A FIRE IN THEIR OWN HOME OR INJURE ANY THEMSELVES OR ANYONE ELSE.
SO WE REALLY WANT YOU TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS AND UH, MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO IT SAFELY AND HAVE A VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON.
